Rowing at Dixons Fazakerley Academy

Rowing is becoming an integral part of our PE curriculum at Dixons Fazakerley Academy, and across our trust. We understand the positive benefits it can have on our students, helping to develop not only their cardiovascular fitness, but also their motor skills, posture and strength. 

We recently had ten Concept2 rowing machines installed at our academy which was made possible through the support of and our trust's partnership with British Rowing. 

The partnership is already making a real difference. Rowing is doing more than just building physical fitness, it's building confidence, resilience, and ambition in our students. Through this new opportunity, our young people are discovering strengths they didn’t know they had, learning the value of teamwork and perseverance, and gaining access to pathways that can lead to national competitions, scholarships, and even careers in sport.

Rowing has now been introduced into our PE curriculum for both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, furthering our commitment to offering students a diverse and enriching range of sporting opportunities.

Our students have already taken part in the Dixons Academies Trust North West Indoor Rowing Competition, with four more events planned for this academic year and the first inaugural trust-wide indoor rowing competition later in the year, which promises to be an exciting milestone for our school community.

Looking to the future, our partnership with British Rowing will continue to grow, with plans in place to help identify and support emerging talent within our academy. This will provide our students with additional pathways to develop their skills and potentially pursue rowing beyond school. We also look forward to working with all aboard rowing for the on water programme that will help develop our future rowers. 

Rowing at Dixons Fazakerley Academy is set to play an important role in inspiring our students, broadening their experiences, and nurturing talent for years to come.
