Year 11 students shine at Oxford Schools debating competition

Last Thursday, four of our Year 11 students took part in the Northwest round of the prestigious Oxford Schools Debating Competition

Run by the Oxford Union, Oxford Schools' is the largest British Parliamentary debating competition in the world, aimed at students aged 14-18. The aim is to make debating accessible to as many young debaters as possible whilst maintaining the prestige and competitiveness of the competition! Each year, over a thousand students are invited to take part in the competition, with more than 350 schools competing last year alone. The competition provides students with a fantastic opportunity to build their confidence and skills in public speaking, structure argumentation, and analytical problem-solving, all while engaging with some of the brightest young minds from across the country and the world.

Throughout the day, they tackled two challenging and thought‑provoking motions, debating the merits of eco‑terrorism and commercial surrogacy. Each student spoke with confidence, clarity, and maturity, demonstrating impressive critical thinking and communication skills. They represented the school exceptionally well, and we are incredibly proud of their hard work and achievements.

Well done to all four students for showcasing such passion and talent on a regional stage!
