Success for Our Students at the AAYR Indoor Rowing Championships

Yesterday, a team of our students travelled to Warrington to compete in the AAYR Indoor Rowing Championships, a major regional event that brings together schools from across the Northwest. This annual competition is one of the cornerstones of the All Aboard Youth Rowing programme and last year welcomed over 400 pupils from 32 schools.

The championships ran throughout the day for Year 8 and Year 9 pupils, with students taking part in both individual and relay races. Competitors rowed in timed individual events of 3 or 4 minutes, depending on age, before joining their teammates for the high‑energy 8‑minute relay races.

⭐ Outstanding Achievements from Our School

Our students delivered exceptional performances throughout the day, and we are delighted to share their fantastic results:

  • Our Year 9 Boys Relay Team won the silver medal, securing an impressive 2nd place in a highly competitive field.
  • In the individual Year 9 boys' category:
    • Chinua achieved an impressive 6th place overall.
    • Tom finished 8th, delivering a strong and consistent performance.
    • Alfie took 10th place, earning another top‑ten finish for the team.
  • Mr Flynn represented the staff team in the adult race and placed 3rd, rounding off the day with a brilliant podium finish for the school.

These accomplishments reflect the dedication of our students, who have been training each week with their coaches. For many, this was their first experience of competing at such a large regional sporting event - and they rose to the challenge with determination, enthusiasm, and real team spirit.

🌟 A Celebration of Teamwork and Community

Rowing is a sport built on resilience, discipline, and cooperation, and it was inspiring to see those qualities from every participant. The atmosphere was full of encouragement and camaraderie as students supported one another and pushed themselves to achieve their best.

The AAYR Indoor Rowing Championships rely on the support of over 50 volunteers, including AAYR coaches, British Rowing representatives, and dedicated friends of the programme - all of whom help create an exciting and memorable event for young people.

A huge well done to all participants - students and staff alike - for representing our school with such pride and energy!
