Students competed in the first round of the Urban Debate League

Posted 24th January 2024

On Tuesday 24th January, Dixons Fazakerley Academy competed in the first round of the Urban Debate League. We took three teams, which consisted of both newcomers and Debate Mate veterans. Students had to debate a number of challenging topics in order to accumulate as many points as possible. The first debate was: “This House Would ban reality television”; the second debate was: “This House Would introduce a curfew after 8PM for under 16s”. Our teams prepared for both proposition and opposition sides, coming up with a range of balanced and thoughtful arguments. All of our students performed admirably throughout the competition. The judges were particularly impressed by our watertight arguments and our overall professionalism. The results of the competition will be published in due course, so in the meantime, all we can do is prepare for the next round of debating!
