Operation Gears: understanding e-bikes, e-scooters and off-road motorcycles

Merseyside Police has launched Operation Gears – a campaign to crackdown on the illegal use of electric bikes, e-scooters, and off-road motorcycles that are being used in serious crime and antisocial behaviour across the region.

The campaign highlights how to identify:

How to keep you and your e-bike safe
Illegal electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPCs)
Illegal powered scooters and the difference between legal rental scooters and privately owned scooters
Illegal off-road electric motorcycles, often referred to as "scrambler bikes"

The information also includes practical advice on protecting your bicycle, including registering and marking your bike, using high-quality locks and storing your bike securely.

Please take a few moments to review the attached leaflets and discuss them with your child. Raising awareness can help keep our young people safe and support efforts to reduce anti-social behaviour, vehicle-related crime and bike theft across our communities.
