Celebrating world book day: a community that belongs

Today, the entire Dixons Fazakerley Academy community came together to celebrate World Book Day, embracing this year’s powerful theme: “Belonging.”

We kicked off the morning with a whole-school quiz, bringing students and staff together for a lively and competitive start to the day. From character trivia to famous first lines, our students showed off their impressive book knowledge.

Our DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) sessions centred around extracts exploring identity, community, and belonging. Students read, reflected, and discussed how stories help us connect with others and understand our place in the world.

A highlight for everyone was our “we belong at Dixons Fazakerley” puzzle project. Every student received a puzzle piece to decorate with words or artwork expressing why they feel they belong. The completed puzzle was a powerful reminder that every piece matters, and every person belongs.

Adding to the excitement, staff celebrated by dressing up as beloved book characters, filling the building with colour, creativity, and laughter. From heroes and villains to fantasy favourites, their costumes brought stories to life and added an extra layer of magic to the day.

World Book Day is always special at Dixons Fazakerley Academy, but this year’s theme made it particularly meaningful. Through reading, discussion, creativity, and community spirit, we celebrated not just books - but each other.
