Principal's blog: our weekly round up
Posted 3rd February 2026 by Nicholas Hughes
Over the last week, we have had the joy of welcoming families into our academy for parents' evenings to discuss progress with teachers. We know how valuable it is to have time to speak to the teachers involved in your child's learning, and we really appreciate the feedback you share with us - so thank you!
We know how important providing our students with opportunities outside the classroom is to their development and school experience. Last week, our students took part in an engaging rowing experience - learning the importance of synchronisation and following the lead stroke to keep the boat moving smoothly. The session helped build teamwork, communication and confidence ahead of future on water training.
We have also been marking Holocaust Memorial Day with our students developing their research skills while deepening their understanding of this period in history. They researched Holocaust survivors and created thoughtful biography posters, now proudly displayed in the library
Students recently spoke at a conference about their experience of becoming mentors as part of some of the work we are doing with an external organisation, Humanutopia, which delivers programmes to improve wellbeing and confidence. We received incredible feedback on how the students presented - with enthusiasm, care and joy, really showing how the programme has impacted on them.
I am so proud of our students and the journey we are on at Dixons Fazakerley. It hasn't always been easy and we are constantly learning and evolving to make sure we show up for our children in the way they deserve. Thank you for your continued support.
