Principal's blog

Posted 16th December 2025 by Nicholas Hughes

We know how important it is to keep families connected to life at our academy, and we look forward to sharing regular principal updates with you through videos and blogs in the future.

As we enter the final week of term, the academy is full of festive spirit and pride. It’s been a busy, productive term, and we’re pleased to share some recent highlights along with key dates for the week ahead — including an important milestone for our Year 11 students.

Recent highlights

  • Our Year 8 and Year 9 students have continued their participation in the All Aboard Youth Rowing programme, completing their second session this week.
  • Thank you to families who supported our recent book fair, raising £191. This will be reinvested directly into new library books for our students.
  • Students demonstrated kindness, teamwork and positivity during Fazakerley Federation Christmas parties.
  • Our Year 7 gallery evening was a real success, with students proudly showcasing their creativity. The event was well attended and received very positive feedback from families and staff.

Key activities this week

  • Yesterday:
    • We hosted the Dixons North West Athletics Competition. It was a privilege to welcome schools from across the region and showcase our students, staff and facilities.
    • Our Christmas showcase was a magical evening celebrating student talent across music, drama and dance.
  • Wednesday:
    • Year 7 students are excited for their trip to see Matilda at the Liverpool Empire Theatre. Students will leave school at 12:30pm and return around 6:00pm.
  • Thursday:
    • Year 11 mock results day — a significant moment focused on reflection, celebration and clear target-setting.
    • Christmas Jumper Day and Christmas dinner day. Students may wear a Christmas jumper for a £1 donation to charity.
  • Friday
    • End-of-term dismissal. Students will be dismissed by year group from 1:45pm and all will be off site by 2:00pm unless attending an after-school correction.

A message for Year 11 families

Thank you for your support this term.

As we reach this point in the year, small habits make a big difference. After an intense term, students deserve time to rest, recharge and enjoy Christmas with their families. Alongside this, we strongly encourage some quiet, structured revision over the holidays so students return in January feeling confident and ready to build momentum.

Please note that Year 11 Parents’ Evening will take place on Thursday 8 January, an important opportunity to discuss progress and next steps.

Finally, I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Miss Sims for her outstanding work supporting our most vulnerable families this term. Through partnerships with Cash for Kids, the Christmas Food Bank and the staff toy drive, she has helped ensure many of our students do not miss out this Christmas.

Thank you for your continued support throughout the term. We wish you and your families a warm, peaceful and joyful festive period and look forward to welcoming everyone back in January.
