KS3 Library Lessons: Holocaust Memorial Day
This week in our KS3 library lessons, students have been taking part in a thoughtful and meaningful learning project to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. The focus has been on developing research skills while deepening students’ understanding of this important period in history.
To support their work, pupils used the Holocaust Centre North website, an educational organisation that promotes learning about the Holocaust and post‑Holocaust issues. Holocaust Centre North is dedicated to raising awareness of human rights, freedom, and equality by telling global history through local stories - specifically those of survivors and refugees who rebuilt their lives in the North of England. Their carefully curated survivor testimonies provided an accessible, powerful, and respectful resource for our students.

Using these online stories, students selected a survivor to research and explored key moments from their lives, including:
- Their childhood and family background
- Their experiences during the Holocaust
- The challenges they faced as refugees
- How they rebuilt their lives after the war
The culmination of the project has been the creation of a biographical poster that honours the individual each student studied. Their posters will form a powerful display to mark Holocaust Memorial Day and help our school community understand why remembrance matters.
